세계 최대 인터넷 기업인 구글 (Google)이 중국 · 프랑스 · 독일 등 세계 각국 정부와 갈등을 빚고 있다.

구글은 12일(현지시각) "앞으로 중국 정부의 검색 검열을 받아들이지 않겠다"며 중국 시장에서 철수할 수 있다는 강경 입장을 밝혔다.

그러던 구글이 이번에 입장을 바꾼 이유는 지난달 발생한 중국 해커들의 구글에 대한 사이버 공격이 발단이 됐다. 구글은 "중국 해커들이 구글의 이메일 서비스인 지메일(gmail)에 있는 중국 인권운동가들의 계정에 접근해 2개 계정에서 일부 정보를 유출했다"고 밝혔다. 로이터통신은 전문가들을 인용, 사이버 공격에 중국 정부가 관련됐을 가능성을 제기했다.



그러나 중국 정부가 구글의 요구를 받아들일 가능성은 낮아 보인다. 중국 정부는 지난해 6월에도 "구글이 음란물을 유포하고 있다"며 사이트 접속을 차단했을 정도로, 구글에 대한 반감이 강하기 때문이다.



유럽에서는 프랑스의 니콜라 사르코지(Sarkozy) 대통령이 최근 "몇몇 글로벌 인터넷 기업들이 프랑스 광고시장에서 수익을 올리면서 세금은 본사가 있는 곳에만 낸다"며 "앞으로 이런 기업에 세금을 부과할 것"이라며 구글을 겨냥했다. 프랑스 현지 매체들은 새 규제 방안을 '구글 세금(tax)'이라고 명명한다.



구글 프랑스지사는 법인세율이 낮은 아일랜드에 본사를 두고 프랑스엔 세금을 내지 않고 있다. 구글은 이에 대해 "인터넷 시장의 기술 혁신과 발전을 저해하는 조치"라고 반박했다.



독일의 자비네 로이트호이서 슈나렌베르거(Sabine Leutheusser-Schnarrenberger) 연방 법무부 장관도 최근 "구글이 독일 시민들에 대한 너무 많은 정보를 갖고 있다"고 구글을 공격했다.
